We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 “And indeed you are accursed till the Day of Judgement.” 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
