Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
