The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 by the angels who gently release the souls of the believers, 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 And those who govern the event, 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 and will be followed by the second one, 7 hearts will undergo terrible trembling, 8 While eyes are downcast 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 Even after we are crumbled bones? 11 They will say: 'Then we are returned lost' 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 and behold, they are awakened. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - 17 And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself 18 And I will guide you to your Lord so that you should fear. 19 So he showed him the greater sign; 20 But (the Pharaoh) disavowed and disobeyed. 21 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 Saying: "I am alone your lord, the highest of them all." 24 you pay attention 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
