He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
