The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
