So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 Fear Allah and do not disgrace me' 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 it is still there on the highway -- 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
