The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
