The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
