Nay, by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 a warning to humans, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What led you into Hell Fire?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
