We had given the Book to Moses about which people greatly disagreed. Had the word of your Lord not been decreed, He would have certainly settled their differences (there and then). They were greatly suspicious and doubtful about the Book of Moses. 45 Whoever works righteousness benefits his own soul; whoever works evil, it is against his own soul: nor is thy Lord ever unjust (in the least) to His Servants. 46 ۞ He alone has knowledge of the Hour [of Judgment]. And no fruit emerges from its husk, nor does any female become pregnant or give birth, without His knowledge. On the Day He will call out to them, "Where are My associates?" They will reply, "We declare to You that none of us can bear witness to them:" 47 And those they used to worship will leave them in the lurch, and they will realise there is no escape for them. 48 Man wearies not of praying for good, but when evil visits him, he despairs and gives up all hope. 49 And if We bestow Our Mercy upon him after hardship, he will surely say: “This is what I truly deserve, and I do not believe that the Hour (of Resurrection) will ever come to pass; and if I am returned to my Lord, there too I shall enjoy the best.” Surely We shall fully apprise the unbelievers of what they have done, and We shall certainly make them taste a severe chastisement. 50 And when We show favour to man, he withdraws and turns away, but when evil touches him, then he has recourse to long supplications. 51 Say: "Just think. If this is from God and you deny it, who will be in greater error than he who is in open dissent?" 52 Soon will We show them our Signs in the (furthest) regions (of the earth), and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord doth witness all things? 53 Pay heed! They are certainly doubtful regarding the meeting with their Lord; pay heed! He encompasses all things! 54
