He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
