The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
