In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
