The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
