The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 those who deny the Day of Judgement. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Indeed! On that Day a barrier will be set between them and their Lord, 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 It is a written book, 20 To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels). 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 upon couches gazing; 23 Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
