Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
