Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
