The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
