AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 "And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. 64 So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded." 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 By your life, they wandered on in their wild intoxication 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 We laid it (the city) upside down and rained stones of baked clay upon them. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
