۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
