Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
