The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 For they said: "A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or madness!" 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 (To him We said): 'Tomorrow they shall know who is the arrogant liar. 26 For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience! 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them; every share of the water shall be regulated. 28 Then they called their comrade, and he took in hand, and hamstrung her. 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lout (Lot), whom We saved in last hour of the night, 34 As a Favour from Us, thus do We reward him who gives thanks (by obeying Us). 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 They demanded that he turn over his guests to them. We struck their faces, blinded them and said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 37 And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment. 38 "So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 39 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 40
