The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for the people of the right hand 38
