A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
