The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
