He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
