The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
