The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By [the winds] that pluck out vehemently 1 by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers), 2 By the angels who glide swimmingly, 3 by the angels who hasten along 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 A Day shall come whereon the quaking will quake, 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 On that Day will [men's] hearts be throbbing, 8 and their eyes shall be downcast with dread. 9 They say: shall we indeed be restored to the first state, 10 even after we have turned into decayed bones?" 11 They said, "So this return is an obvious loss!" 12 But it shall be only a single cry, 13 and behold, they are awakened. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 "Go to the Pharaoh who has become refractory, 17 Then say: Have you (a desire) to purify yourself: 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 Moses showed him the great sign, 20 but he denied it and refused [the faith]. 21 Then he went back hastily. 22 then he mustered 23 And then said, "I am your most supreme lord." 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear the consequences. 26
