He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
