Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
