a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
