Al-Kahf 9 of 12
Recall how Moses said to his servant, "I shall not give up until I reach the place where both seas meet, even if it takes me years!" 60 But when they reached the Junction, they forgot (about) their Fish, which took its course through the sea (straight) as in a tunnel. 61 So when they had passed further on (beyond that fixed place), Musa (Moses) said to his boy-servant: "Bring us our morning meal; truly, we have suffered much fatigue in this, our journey." 62 His companion replied, "Do you remember the rock on which we took rest? Satan made me forget to mention to you the story of the fish and how it miraculously made its way into the sea. 63 Moses said: "But that is exactly what we were seeking." So they retraced their steps. 64 and found one of Our worshipers to whom We had given from Our Mercy, and to whom We had taught knowledge of Ours. 65 Moses said to him, 'Shall I follow thee so that thou teachest me, of what thou hast been taught, right judgment.' 66 He answered: "You will surely not be able to bear with me. 67 "And how can you have patience about a thing which you know not?" 68 [Moses] said, "You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order." 69 The other said: "If then thou wouldst follow me, ask me no questions about anything until I myself speak to thee concerning it." 70

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
