The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Byzantians have been overcome. 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 Within a few years. Allah's is the command before and after; and on that day the believers shall rejoice, 4 In Allah succour. He succoureth whomsoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise; and Allah faileth not His promise. Yet most men know not. 6 They know only the outward appearance of the life of the world, and they! of the Hereafter, they are neglecetful. 7 Do they not think for themselves that God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them without reason and a determined purpose? But many men reject the meeting with their Lord. 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
