The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
