The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
