The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
