The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 and by the Book in lines 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
