He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and pastures 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
