Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 raised couches, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
