S (Saad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 Verily those who disbelieve are in vainglory and schism. 2 How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they called, but time was none to escape. 3 They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. They say, "This is a magician, a great liar. 4 What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! 5 And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended. 6 We have not heard of this in the last religion; this is surely an invention. 7 "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! 8 Or, have they the treasuries of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Giving? 9 Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them theirs? Then let them ascend by ropes! 10 A defeated host are (all) the factions that are there. 11 The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 not one, that cried not lies to the Messengers, so My retribution was just. 14
