Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 What is the Reality? 2 What do you comprehend by the concrete reality? 3 The Thamud and 'Ad denied the consequential calamity. 4 So regarding the Thamud, they were destroyed by a terrible scream. 5 and the Ad were destroyed by a furiously raging wind-storm 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Do you now see any trace of them? 8 And Firon and those before him and the overthrown cities continuously committed sins. 9 They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. 10 Verily We! when the water rose, We bare you upon the traversing ark. 11 That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing. 14 Then, on that day will the Event befall. 15 And the heaven shall be rent in sunder, it on that Day shall be frail. 16 And the angels shall be on the sides thereof; and above them eight shall bear on that day your Lord's power. 17 That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed. 18 Those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their right hands will say, "Come and read my record. 19 Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." 20 Then he shall find himself in a life of bliss; 21 in a lofty garden, 22 Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. 23 [And all who are thus blest will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer in return for all [the good deeds] that you have sent ahead in days gone by!" 24 But whosoever gets his ledger in his left hand, will say: "Would that I were never given my ledger, 25 And had not known what is my account. 26 Oh, would that it had been death! 27 Of no use was even my wealth. 28 There hath perished from me my authority. 29 (It will be said): 'Take him and bind him. 30 Then into Hellfire drive him. 31 "Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits! 32 for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, 33 nor were they concerned with feeding the destitute. 34 On this day, they will have no friends 35 nor any food save the filth 36 that none but sinners eat' 37
