He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 From him you are distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
