The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
