We have sent no Prophet to any city but that We seized its people with misery and hardship, that haply they might be humble; 94 Then We gave them good in the place of evil until they became many and said: Distress and happiness did indeed befall our fathers. Then We took them by surprise while they did not perceive. 95 And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning." 96 Are the people of the townships then secure that Our wrath would not come upon them at night while they are slumbering? 97 Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play? 98 Do they feel secure against God's devising? No one feels secure against God's devising except for those doomed to ruin. 99
