If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 And most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: 37 Until when he comes to Us, he says: O would that between me and you there were the distance of the East and the West; so evil is the associate! 38 When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment! 39 So will you make the deaf listen or show the path to the blind, and to those who are in open error? (The disbelievers whose hearts are sealed, are deaf and blind to the truth). 40 And if We take thee away, We shall surely take vengeance on them. 41 or make you see the end that We had promised them, for We have full power over them. 42 So hold fast to all that has been revealed to thee: for, behold, thou art on a straight way; 43 Surely it is a Reminder to thee and to thy people; and assuredly you will be questioned. 44 Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you, "Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent One?" 45
