The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
