O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do. 51 Your nation is but one nation, and I am your Lord, therefore fear Me. 52 But they split in their affair between them into sects, each party rejoicing in what is with them. 53 Therefore leave them in their overwhelming ignorance till 54 Do they think that because We have granted them abundance of wealth and sons, 55 We provide them with the means of competing with each other in virtuous deeds, but they do not realize this. 56 Indeed those who are overwhelmed due to the fear of their Lord – 57 Who believe in their Lord's revelations, 58 And those who ascribe not partners unto their Lord, 59 and those who give to others what has been bestowed upon them with their hearts trembling at the thought that they must return to their Lord; 60 It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein. 61 We charge not any soul save to its capacity, and with Us is a Book speaking truth, and they shall not be wronged. 62 Nay, their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this; and their deeds too vary from the way (mentioned above). They will persist in these deeds 63 So that when We seize the affluent among them with affliction, they will begin to implore for help. 64 "Put a stop to your groaning now! Surely no help shall be provided to you from Us. 65 My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels 66 Stiff-necked, discoursing thereof by night, reviling. 67 Why did they not think over the message? Or has something come to them which had not come to their fathers? 68 Or, is it that they recognised not their apostle, and so of him they become deniers? 69 Or do they say, 'He is bedevilled'? Nay, he has brought them the truth, but most of them are averse from the truth. 70 But if the truth were in accord with their own likes and dislikes, the heavens and the earth would surely have fallen into ruin, and all that lives in them [would long ago have perished]! Nay, [in this divine writ] We have conveyed unto them all that they ought to bear in mind: and from this their reminder they [heedlessly] turn away! 71 Or, do you ask a tribute from them? Your Lord's tribute is better. He is the Best of providers. 72 (Muhammad), you certainly have called them to the right path, 73 But those who do not believe in the Hereafter have indeed deviated from that path. 74 ۞ If We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction to and fro. 75 And already We overtook them with chastisement, but they were not submissive to their Lord, nor do they humble themselves. 76 So that when at last We open up the gate of severe punishment on them they will be overwhelmed with despair. 77
