And indeed We rescued the Descendants of Israel from a disgraceful torture. 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 And certainly We chose them, having knowledge, above the nations. 32 and bestowed upon them the Signs wherein lay an evident test for them. 33 Verily these! they say: 34 "That [which is ahead of us] is but our first [and only] death, and we shall not be raised to life again. 35 "Then bring back our fore-fathers, if you speak the truth!" 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play. 38 We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 the day a master shall avail nothing a client, and they shall not be helped, 41 Save him on whom Allah hath mercy. Lo! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
