The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and extended shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
