He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
